A Disappointing Experience...

...@ 2010 Orlando EyeCon!

In a cyber world that continues to grow, we bloggers of this fast developing industry need to stand united, since because of people like us, conventions, TV Shows and other outlets generate more income without paying or obtaining anything in exchange. Therefore, since we live in a "word of mouth" industry, which has been confirmed by writers like Malcom Gladwell in his book the Tipping Point, we deserve the right to have a better and equal treatment.

Meanwhile the Tipping Point for us wasn’t the one that we learned in college which explains "the magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire."  Instead it was something completely irrelevant and opposite: the disappointing experience in which we were treated unfairly and inequable has other press members that attended the convention, therefore meaning that our Bloodylicious Truebloodholics followers aren't as indispensable.

Consequently, all of the excitement that we had to, once again, attend the convention came to a halting disruptive, disrespectful departure, in which we were accused of being liars, among other things. They took a simple misunderstanding to the extremes, by adding their own conclusions and making it extremely personal instead of business. Let’s just say that it came up has a distasteful surprise, followed by an overwhelming support from our peers; Which reminded us of another great quote from Mr. Gladwell, “The key to good decision making is not knowledge. It is understanding. We are swimming in the former. We are desperately lacking in the latter."
But now, on to the actual convention…We arrived on Friday November 4th to an uneventful and underwhelming event, in which, some of the appointed persons to assist the actors were extremely arrogant and difficult. Something that was extremely peculiar to us since it wasn’t because of the actors’ demands to do so.
PS: Don't get us wrong but we do understand if the actor didn't want the attention...but if the actor is the one wanting the attention and leading the conversation, why interrupt him.

Regardless, we had hope that the convention was going to be better organized compare to last year and because of this we decided to participate and even purchase a vendors table. Nonetheless, it was not a profitable event to have participated in, since there was no sign for the vendor’s area. The event was located at a hotel adjacent to one of the biggest malls in Orlando and even didn't have a sign for people in the mall to have knowledge of the event. If a person didn’t have a wristband or badge they were not authorized to access the vendor’s area. Which we found completely ridiculous since it should be something that any person can access so they can actually purchase items.

Even so these are basic marketing tactics and techniques, we believe it would not have made any difference since the event was barely promoted and didn’t even announced the vendors. Furthermore, the pictures, autographs and other items were so overpriced that customers couldn’t afford anything else aside from that. Which was really unfortunate for actual guests that travel from New Mexico, Virginia, Houston and other states, which paid extreme high amounts of money and still didn't receive the "VIP treatment" that might have been promised to them.

And, please note that we do understand that there are rules and regulations for these types of events. More so when you have been working in the industry as an Experiential Manager, planning and coordinating these types of events for over 8 years, but there are ways of communicating, perhaps actually responding to emails.

What is more disappointing and even hurtful is when the organizer of the event, informed us of certain things we were allowed to do and without notice kept retracting his words, without giving further explanation. So unprofessional was the organization of the event that in more than one occasion, we saw how bad they treated their own staff members, taking them to the point of insult and making them cry. More upsetting is the fact that these staff members are unpaid for their work and overworked. All in all the convention was VERY frustrating. If it weren’t for the actors, that at all times, were nice, the experience would have been even worst.

For next year I encourage them to actually hire a professional event company so they can at least assist them and give them some tips of how to do a real event and if it is not an inconvenience, take some etiquette classes. Remember, "Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do that makes you good."

Sincerely,

Truebloodholics

Movies to Watch Before the Oscars

We can't wait for the 2010 Oscars! But before that big day, we recommend for everyone to watch the nominated movies since it will be sooo dreadful to watch an Awards show for almost 4 hours without knowing anything!. Regardless, below you will find some trailers of some of the movies that we find haven't been has popular in the box-office but might surprise us all...then don't say that we didn't warned u!

Which ones were your FAVS?

And the Grammy went to!

Various of our FAV's and some of our NOT so fav. Anyway, we are here to investigate and inform the good, the bad and the ugly from the Grammys (EVENT) so we'll just focus on that - for now! - here it is:

The Good: The Event Production and Stage was so powerfully created and executed that it rejuvenated what we always think and visualize when watching The Grammys.

The Bad: The Event Planning since the Awards started strongly with the incredible performance of  Lady Gaga and Sir Elton John, then continue with amazing performances by BeyoncĂ©, Black Eyed Peas, Pink and other great ones but then the night became slow and boring. My recommendation is to divide better the performances in order of not losing audience through the night.

The Ugly: The Sound!!!! It wasn't crisp and clear at all times plus (probably because of bad words) they had to edit half of the songs by the "rap" performances.

How to throw a Golden Globe Party!

We're not a Fashion Blog But...

...We know fashion, more so since - in our opinion - it goes hand in hand with Event Production. As part of our own assignments today we have been reviewing pictures and other sites opinions in regards to the 2010 Golden Globe Red Carpet Best & Worst Dressed.
In our research we have reviewed the Best & Worst options of: People, EW, Coco Perez, E Online & MTV. And, since we really don't agree 100% with any of these media outlets, we have decided to do our own list of who we consider to be the Best & Worst of the night.

BEST:
Kate Hudson went for an avant-garde Marchesa gown, different look and it pay off. She looked stunning, obviouly because of the rain she had to hold it for the Red Carpet but it was a winner dress.

Kate Winslet like always kept it pretty simple but elegant with this Yves Saint Laurent creation which accentuated her curves.

Lea Michele went for the "Va-Va-Voom" look with her black Oscar de la Renta dress, which we found to be exquisite and unexpected for this Glee actress.

Even though Olivia Wilde had a challenge of outdoing her sexy sheer 2009 Emmy dress, she really did it with this "sparkly" black Gucci gown.

Emily Blunt looked simply rosy and chic on her Dolce & Gabbana ruffle dress. And, according to People she was between 2 dress options so in our opinion she chose the right one!

We have always been fans of Christina Aguilera and her ever changing style, even though, sometime has not been great she always changes something that we respect. Last night she surprised by presenting with Cher, since they have an upcoming movie together Burlesque. More surprisingly was how simple yet elegant and demure she looked.

Other Best Dressed Women were the Golden Globe winners: Sandra Bullock, Toni Collette, Julianna Margulies.

Meanwhile there were some OK looks that we liked but didn't love, these are: Anna Paquin (the shoes were a turn-off), Penelope Cruz (beautiful but...), Jennifer Aniston (sexy but yet another sexy black dress), Courtney Cox (gorgeous but missing something), Cameron Diaz (beautiful fit, beautiful red, not feeling the hair or makeup - not sure what!)

WORST
Mariah Carey (horrible fit. Please realize that you don't have the shape you had 10 years ago!!!!)
Chloe Sevigny (tooooo many ruffles, not a winner dress!)
Heidi Klum (the fit was weird, not her best)
Rita Wilson (I love you but why you had to choose that horrible fabric...looked like curtains!)
Julianne Moore (What happened!)

New Year, New Award Season, New Events!

My dear followers,

Hope the start of the New Year has been a fabulous one for all of you. My excuses for not posting since October but between the high season of events, the Holidays and updating Truebloodholics I found myself with too many things to do/too little time.

Regardless, we have been seeing new and interesting concepts for the end of this decade that seemed appealing for various upcoming events that we will be posting.

We couldn't be more excited to welcome this year with positive energy and excitement for what is to come. And, I believe I speak for many people that didn't have their best year on 09. Regardless, in the wake of this new year there has been disasters that were surprisingly unexpected. One of these have been the sudden earthquakes in California, Argentina, Venezuela and the massive one in Haiti. Because of this we urge EVERYONE to cooperate with this cause and assist in any minimal and possible way.

So let's all join together, uplift the mood and celebrate in continuing welcoming a year that will be great!
